About Me

My name is Hemarie (pronounced “Hey-marie”) and in 2012 I ran my first marathon, the Walt Disney World Marathon, and ran walked crawled through my second marathon, the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon. My right IT band punished me severely for running two marathons back to back, so to keep myself busy while I couldn’t run, I did a 30-Day Yoga challenge. I trained for the 2012 Orlando Half Marathon in exactly one month then switched gears to plan my wedding. I must’ve forgotten how bad training for the first two marathons was since I signed up to run the 2013 Chicago Marathon. It turns out that the third time’s a charm and somehow I managed to keep up with my training (even through my first semester of my MBA program) and run a strong race.

These days you’ll find me struggling to balance work, MBA, family, friends and living healthy one day at a time. Hopefully I’ll get a half marathon in there too!

You can read about how and when I started running here.

In my mind I run like a beautiful gazelle, with beauty and grace. However, I’ve seen race photo after race photo that would suggest otherwise. The closest to beauty I’ve gotten while running was the heart-shaped sweat mark I once had on my back during a long Saturday run. Thank you to my fellow runner (and blogger) Rachelle for pointing this out as I will forever be in the pursuit of another just like that.

I love coffee, my two so-ugly-they’re-cute pugs and my handsome husband. Those are not necessarily listed in order of importance, but I will say that only one of those leaves me with headaches in its absence.

English is technically my second language, Spanish being my first. My Spanish is more like ‘Spanglish’ these days and I haven’t lived in Puerto Rico since I was three-years-old. However, this does not stop me from using this as an excuse often for why I mumble and get words confused.

For the record, I would like to acknowledge that I think runners are crazy and I question my sanity every time I go for a run. I think this is why I like running so much.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoying the journey with me!

This is me, caught mid-sentence. This happens often as I like to talk.

Eh’ no worries chica! We all have those race photo’s that tell us we are not a gazelle. I’m king of the “deer in the headlights” look on most of my race photos. In 6 or so odd years of distance running I have only one race photo I’m proud of and that the one I use for my avi ha! Those pugs are awesome!!! Annnnd yes … yes … we runner’s are truly crazy haha! 🙂

Yes! “Deer in headlights” probably is a more accurate description of most of my race pics too. But we can dream, right? 🙂
